Ingredients
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
Method
In a small bowl, mix warm water and honey. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place the loaf in a greased loaf pan.
Cover and let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Preheat your oven to 190°C.
Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
Let the bread cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
